Agentic Commerce (ACP & UCP), Explained
AI agents don’t just recommend businesses anymore, in a growing number of cases, they can also complete the transaction. Agentic Commerce is the infrastructure that lets that happen: when an AI agent can check your availability, confirm your pricing, and complete a booking or purchase on a customer’s behalf, without a human in the loop.
The Outcome: AI agents can browse, book, and buy from you, automatically. Once it’s in place, a customer can go from asking an AI for a recommendation to completing a transaction with you in the same conversation, no phone call, no separate checkout flow, no friction.
ACP and UCP, in Plain Terms
Agentic Commerce runs on two emerging standards. ACP (Agentic Commerce Protocol), backed by Stripe and OpenAI, and UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol), backed by Google, are the technical frameworks that let AI agents talk to a business’s booking, pricing, and payment systems directly. Think of them as the equivalent of what payment rails did for e-commerce, standardized ways for a system, in this case an AI agent, to safely query and complete a transaction with your business.
What Implementation Actually Means
We connect your existing booking and payment systems, calendar, availability, pricing, catalog, so AI agents can query them and act on a customer’s behalf. For a service business, that’s typically checking availability, confirming pricing, and processing a deposit or booking. For a larger catalog or enterprise business, that scales up to real-time inventory and pricing APIs and full agent-compatible checkout across thousands of SKUs. The scope of implementation is different at each level, but the underlying job is the same: making sure an AI agent that wants to transact with you actually can.
Why This Follows AEO, Not the Other Way Around
Agentic Commerce only pays off once AI is already recommending you. There’s no upside to being transaction-ready if no AI agent is finding you in the first place. That’s why most clients start with AEO and add Agentic Commerce once their AI visibility is established, though the two can run together from day one if you’re ready for both.
